At the BRICS Business Forum in New Delhi, Russian President Vladimir Putin criticized Western economic policies, stating that Russia has faced over 30,000 sanctions—more than double the total imposed on all other countries combined. Putin characterized these measures as “ugly” forms of state-level intervention, citing the destruction of pipelines, the blocking of transport corridors, and the seizure of maritime vessels as physical manifestations of geopolitical pressure.

Despite these restrictions, Putin asserted that Russia has successfully adapted its trade strategy by strengthening ties with reliable partners and noted that Russia's economic growth over the last three years has outpaced the global average. The remarks coincide with the U.S. Senate passing the Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act of 2026, which proposes tariffs of up to 100 percent on certain goods from countries like India and China that import significant Russian energy.

On the sidelines of the summit, President Putin met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to discuss bilateral cooperation. The leaders reviewed progress on major joint projects, including the El-Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant and the Russian Industrial Zone in the Suez Canal. Putin praised Egypt as a “long-standing and reliable friend” and invited el-Sisi to the upcoming Russia-Africa summit in Moscow this October. Discussions also touched upon regional stability, specifically regarding the Palestinian cause and the need for de-escalation in the Middle East.
