Vladimir Putin discusses neutrality and Egon Bahr at Valdai Club

During the Valdai Discussion Club in Moscow, Russian President Vladimir Putin engaged in a dialogue with Swiss publisher Roger Köppel. Köppel questioned Putin regarding the sanctions imposed on the Swiss food corporation Nestlé. Putin responded by stating that Russia does not punish specific entities but rather reacts to measures taken by other states and companies.

Putin also addressed the concept of Swiss neutrality, expressing general support for it while criticizing Swiss sanctions against Russia. During the exchange, Putin prompted Köppel to speak about Egon Bahr, the late German SPD politician and architect of Ostpolitik. Putin praised Bahr as a wise figure who sought to build bridges between East and West, emphasizing that European peace cannot be achieved against Russia.

Regarding regional security, Putin responded to threats directed at Kaliningrad, asserting that Russia would utilize its full defense arsenal to protect its territory if attacked. He criticized Western actions and NATO expansion, suggesting that the current escalation is a result of the West ignoring Russia's security interests.
