Putin cites drone attacks as barrier to peace talks with Trump

Russian President Vladimir Putin has indicated that an immediate resumption of trilateral peace talks between Russia, Ukraine, and the United States is unlikely. During a telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump, Putin cited recent Ukrainian drone attacks on Moscow and other Russian cities during parliamentary elections as a primary reason for the delay in negotiations.

Despite the diplomatic friction, President Trump announced a deal in which Russia has agreed to deliver more than 300,000 tonnes of diesel to American and global markets. This agreement has faced sharp criticism from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who described the deal as a ‘gift to Putin,’ as well as from US lawmakers and European allies.

Kremlin foreign policy aide Yuri Ushakov stated that Moscow remains ready to negotiate once the situation is assessed, but emphasized that Russia will continue hostilities until all its stated objectives are achieved. Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio noted that the conflict in Ukraine has reached a dangerous stalemate, though the United States continues to seek a diplomatic resolution.
