Vladimir Putin honors late Chechen leader Akhmat Kadyrov

Russian President Vladimir Putin paid tribute to the late Chechen leader Akhmat Kadyrov on the 75th anniversary of his birth. Putin credited Kadyrov’s decisive actions with helping to end long-standing conflicts and restoring stability to the North Caucasus region.

During his address, Putin emphasized Kadyrov’s role in unifying Chechen society during the 1990s and his commitment to the principle that the fate of Chechnya is inseparable from that of Russia. The President noted that Kadyrov worked to establish a barrier against international terrorism and served as a spiritual leader to steer people away from extremist ideologies.

Kadyrov, who served as the first president of the Chechen Republic within Russia from 2003 to 2004, was assassinated in a bombing on Victory Day in 2004. Putin stated that the crime committed against him ‘can neither be forgiven nor forgotten.’
