Vladimir Putin inaugurates Serp i Molot transport hub in Moscow

Russian President Vladimir Putin inaugurated the ‘Serp i Molot’ (Sickle and Hammer) urban transport hub in Moscow on September 5, marking the 879th anniversary of the city's founding. The 7,300-square-meter facility serves as a major transport node in eastern Moscow, connecting two metro stations and tram lines. It is expected to serve nearly one million people, with daily usage projected to reach 100,000 by 2030.

The station's name and symbolism evoke the Soviet Union, a theme noted amidst Putin's leadership of the United Russia party's campaign for the upcoming September 20 parliamentary elections. During the ceremony, which included Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Putin commented on the dissolution of the USSR, stating, “he who does not mourn the dissolution of the USSR has no heart, and he who wants to restore it has no head.”
