Vladimir Putin outlines Russian positions on Palestine and maritime security

During the 23rd annual Valdai Discussion Club forum, Russian President Vladimir Putin addressed several key geopolitical issues. Regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Putin stated that the establishment of a fully sovereign Palestinian state is the essential cornerstone for any long-term settlement, based on previous UN Security Council and General Assembly resolutions.

On maritime security, Putin expressed hope that the Strait of Hormuz remains open to navigation and called for the lifting of sanctions on Iran. He also noted that Russian proposals to transfer enriched uranium from Iran to Russia remain active.

Addressing international institutions, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova emphasized that Russia is working to ensure the United Nations remains a functional entity capable of responding to modern challenges rather than a mere symbolic organization. Additionally, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov addressed tensions in Europe, noting that Russian diplomats are reminding European officials of Russia's sovereign documents in response to discussions regarding potential NATO blockades of Kaliningrad.
