Vladimir Putin proposes new insurance and grain market for BRICS

At the 18th BRICS summit in New Delhi, Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed the creation of a new insurance mechanism and a collaborative grain market for member nations. These initiatives aim to foster economic growth and provide independent routes for capital, labor, and technology, reducing reliance on Western systems.

The proposal for an insurance mechanism follows sanctions imposed by the G-7, the European Union, and the United Kingdom, which restrict Western companies from insuring vessels transporting Russian crude oil unless it adheres to specific price caps. Putin stated that BRICS nations can operate independently of external pressures.

Additionally, Putin addressed the performance of the New Development Bank (NDB). He noted that the bank has financed 123 projects worth approximately $40 billion, while also highlighting that the institution is managing projects valued at $140 billion. He called for further strengthening the bank's potential to meet high financing needs.
