Vladimir Putin says 2036 term decision premature while stressing Ukraine peace talks and Russian economic growth

Russian President Vladimir Putin told senior editors in St. Petersburg that it is too early to discuss whether he will remain in power until 2036, adding, "Only God knows if we have enough health – for me, for you, and for everyone gathered here." He noted the constitution permits him to run again in 2030.

Putin also addressed the war in Ukraine, claiming Russian forces control about 85% of the Donetsk region and 80% of Zaporizhzhia. He said Russia is ready to reach a peace agreement based on proposals discussed with U.S. President Donald Trump in Anchorage, stating the compromises could form the basis for a settlement.

On the economy, Putin claimed Russia’s growth rate this decade is about 10%, roughly three times the EU’s 3% growth, and highlighted measures taken to curb inflation, including a key interest rate currently at 14.5% that has since been lowered.
