Vladimir Putin says Ukrainian attacks strain Russia and Anchorage talks with Trump produced no agreement

President Vladimir Putin told the Commonwealth of Independent States summit in St. Petersburg that Russia is aware of "problems" caused by intensified Ukrainian attacks, citing a recent drone strike on a Krasnodar refinery that killed one person and sparked a fire. He pledged to protect national security, citizens and border integrity despite the assaults.

Putin also remarked that his August meeting with former U.S. President Donald Trump in Anchorage did not result in any signed agreement on ending the war in Ukraine. He said discussions covered possible compromises proposed by the United States, but no formal document was produced. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed that only proposals were exchanged and no deal was reached.
