Vladimir Putin tests new Russian SUV designed with Chinese technology
Russian President Vladimir Putin recently visited the Gorki Automotive Plant (GAZ) in Nizhny Novgorod, where he test-drove a new SUV. The vehicle, which is part of an effort to revitalize historic Russian automotive brands, is reportedly based on Chinese technology, specifically the Geely Monjaro.
The new crossover features 238 HP and all-wheel drive, with an estimated price of approximately 44,000 euros. This development highlights the increasing influence of Chinese manufacturers and technology within the Russian automotive market.
In the first five months of 2023, China exported more vehicles to Russia than any other country. Major Chinese state-controlled entities, including Chery Automobile Co., Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co., and Great Wall Motor Co., have become dominant players in the region as the industry adapts to significant market shifts.
