Vladimir Putin tests new Volga K50 crossover in Nizhny Novgorod

During a working visit to Nizhny Novgorod, Russian President Vladimir Putin tested the new Volga K50, a D-class crossover that marks the revival of the historic Soviet automotive brand. Putin personally evaluated the vehicle's seating and drove the car between production plants within the manufacturing cluster.

Putin described the cabin as “comfortable and quiet” and noted that the vehicle “drives very well.” The Volga K50 is a licensed rebranding of the Chinese Geely Monjaro SUV, with assembly taking place in Nizhny Novgorod at a facility formerly operated by Volkswagen.

Regarding the future of transportation, Putin stated that hybrid vehicles are the most likely direction for the industry. He suggested that natural gas remains a highly promising fuel source and noted that European experts are currently re-evaluating the heavy investment in purely electric transport.
