Vladimir Putin warns of response to NATO expansion

Russian President Vladimir Putin has issued warnings regarding NATO expansion, stating that while Russia has no aggressive intentions toward Europe, it will be forced to respond if tensions continue to escalate. Putin accused European leaders of exacerbating the situation and using Ukrainians as ‘cannon fodder.’ He emphasized that strengthening Russia’s nuclear triad remains an absolute priority and noted that the modernization of Russia’s strategic missile forces has reached 92 percent.

In a separate assessment, Kristi Raik, director of an Estonian foreign policy institute, suggested that Putin may never personally seek a peace agreement with Ukraine. Raik noted that Russia appears to be taking greater risks and escalating actions in an attempt to create fear within Europe and weaken support for Ukraine. This follows recent incidents involving Russian intelligence activities, such as a drone incident near Leipzig-Halle airport in Germany, which led to German authorities closing a Russian consulate in Bonn.
