Vladimiro Montesinos: Prosecution supports sentence consolidation request

The Peruvian Public Ministry has issued a favorable opinion regarding a request by the defense of Vladimiro Montesinos to consolidate his sentences. The request seeks to merge a 19-year and 8-month sentence from the Pativilca case with a 25-year sentence from the Barrios Altos case, which Montesinos has reportedly already served.

This legal mechanism, known as sentence consolidation (refundición), aims to unify different sentences when there is a legal connection between the facts, such as crimes committed during the same period or within the same context of operations attributed to the Grupo Colina. The prosecution's position, presented by Assistant Prosecutor Telmo Michel Morales, suggests that applying this figure would not violate the fundamental rights of the victims.

The final decision rests with the Judiciary. While the consolidation could impact his current detention status, Montesinos remains subject to other active sentences.
