VLEN's new job‑creation subsidies draw criticism over gender equality and nepotism in Macedonia

The Macedonian government announced a new employment measure through the party VLEN, offering companies up to 250,000 denars for each new hire. The support targets young people, women, long‑term unemployed, persons with disabilities and return migrants, and was presented by government spokesperson Venera Azizi.

Critics, led by VLEN deputy Mimoza Musa, allege the party has failed to uphold its promises on merit‑based hiring and gender quotas. Musa highlighted the appointment of her retired father Arif Musa to the Board of the Development Bank and the absence of any women among the newly appointed ministers, despite VLEN’s earlier pledge for a 40 % female quota in all positions. The controversy underscores accusations of nepotism and broken commitments on gender equality.
