Vålerenga leader defends investor Tor Olav Trøim
Kjetil Siem, the leader of the Norwegian football club Vålerenga, has defended long-term investor Tor Olav Trøim against criticism from certain supporters. Siem described the treatment of Trøim as ‘extremely unfair,’ noting that the investor has supported the club for nearly 30 years.
Trøim has reportedly contributed approximately 250 million NOK to the club without receiving any financial return, helping to cover ongoing deficits. Siem highlighted a tension within the club’s identity, noting that while Vålerenga is rooted in working-class traditions, it relies on Trøim’s financial backing to maintain operations. He characterized the relationship as a ‘necessary evil,’ where the club requires the funds but faces cultural resistance due to the investor's wealth.
