VLI launches rail transport for sorghum exports to China and Africa
Logistics company VLI has launched rail transport operations for sorghum, marking the first time the commodity has been moved by rail in Brazil for export purposes. The company is utilizing three main export routes through its integrated system, including the East, Southeast, and North corridors.
As of September, over 250,000 tons of sorghum have already been shipped, with the majority sent to China via the Port of Tubarão in Espírito Santo and the Port of Santos in São Paulo. The operation is expanding to the North Corridor, which serves producers in Bahia, Maranhão, and Tocantins, with shipments expected to depart from the Port of Itaqui in São Luís this October destined for North Africa and China.
VLI aims to transport more than 800,000 tons of sorghum by the end of 2026. To support this initiative, the company has implemented technical training and infrastructure adjustments to ensure product quality and safety during transit.
