Vlietland nature area: Parties urge PRO Leidschendam-Voorburg to honor green commitment

Multiple political parties and organizations have issued an open letter to PRO Leidschendam-Voorburg, urging the party to uphold its commitment to keep the Vlietland nature area open and green.

The signatories, which include representatives from PRO Voorschoten, Partij voor de Dieren, SP, D66, CDA, Volt, and ChristenUnie, remind the party that it was an original initiator of the ‘Wij kiezen voor een Open en Groen Vlietland’ manifest. They emphasize that the manifest was a public promise to voters to protect the area from development.

The controversy centers on long-standing plans to develop a villa park consisting of 222 holiday homes in the recreational area between the Vliet and the A4. Opponents, including nature organizations and resident groups, argue that such development would destroy the habitats of protected species and reduce one of the few remaining green spaces in the municipality. While coalition negotiations in Leidschendam-Voorburg have concluded, the specific agreements regarding Vlietland have not yet been made public.
