Vélingara teacher detained for suspected murder of wife

An instructor identified as A. B. has been placed under a warrant of committal at the Kolda detention center following the death of his wife, Fatoumata Baldé, in the village of Sangharé, Vélingara department.

Investigations by the gendarmerie revealed that Baldé died from a violent blow to the neck inflicted with a blunt object during the night of September 11–12, 2026. Her daughter discovered the body in their bedroom the following morning.

Authorities indicate the suspected motive stems from intense marital disputes. Reports suggest the tension was exacerbated by the victim's inability to conceive further children following three previous cesarean sections. The investigation also noted a difficult domestic environment involving the husband's second marriage and allegations of mistreatment toward the victim's daughter.
