Vltavská filharmonie project enters permitting phase in Prague

The Vltavská filharmonie project in Prague has reached a major milestone with the submission of an application for a statement of intent. Managed by the Prague Development Company (PDS), the extensive documentation covers not only the future national music center but also surrounding public spaces, transport infrastructure, and related developments in the Bubny-Zátory brownfield area.

Approval of the intent is expected in the first quarter of 2027, with construction slated to begin in the first quarter of 2028. The planned complex will feature five concert halls, facilities for the Czech Philharmonic and the Prague Symphony Orchestra, a creative hub, educational spaces, and restaurants.

Technical preparations are currently focused on acoustics. A 1:10 scale physical model of the main hall is being tested in Mnichovo Hradiště by the international firm Nagata Acoustics. Architect Bjarke Ingels, founder of BIG and the project's designer, is scheduled to present the current status of the project alongside acoustic expert Marc Quiquerez.
