North Macedonia political parties clash over spending and judiciary
Political tensions are rising in North Macedonia as opposition parties launch coordinated attacks on the government and the judiciary.
The party Levica has accused the VMRO-DPMNE government of wasteful spending, alleging that over one million euros in public funds have been used for political promotion, video production, and public opinion polling. Specifically, they noted a contract worth 21.2 million denars for communication campaigns awarded to a company with Bulgarian capital. Simultaneously, VMRO-DPMNE has attacked the integrity of the judicial system, claiming it has been politicized by the SDS and DUI parties. The opposition argues that the judiciary, which currently holds a 2% public trust rating, serves the interests of powerful individuals rather than the law. They cited several high-profile cases and specific judicial appointments as evidence of political influence within the courts and the prosecution.
