VNeID accounts to be locked if mobile numbers are not officially registered

Vietnamese police have issued a warning regarding the VNeID application, stating that electronic identification accounts will be automatically locked if the registered mobile phone number is no longer officially owned by the user.

This measure follows Decree No. 320/2026/ND-CP, which amends previous regulations on electronic identification and authentication. The new decree is set to take effect on September 28. The policy aims to ensure that digital identities are linked to the correct mobile subscribers to enhance accuracy, safety, and information security.

The Phu Tho Provincial Police have advised citizens to immediately verify that their VNeID accounts are linked to a mobile number registered in their own name. Users whose phone numbers have changed or are not officially registered to them must proactively update their information to avoid service disruptions. Authorities also cautioned users against sharing account credentials, passwords, or OTP codes to prevent fraud.
