VNeID app adds crime and fake news reporting features

The VNeID electronic identification application in Vietnam has expanded its utility to include critical community safety and information integrity features. The platform now allows citizens to report security issues, criminal activities, and denunciations directly through the app, providing a secure and convenient alternative to traditional in-person or telephone reporting.

Additionally, following Decree No. 328/2026/ND-CP, VNeID has integrated a feature for reporting fake news and misinformation. Once authorities verify that information is false, they are required to label it with a warning such as ‘FAKE NEWS, FALSE INFORMATION’ within 24 hours to prevent further spread. Local police forces have been actively conducting community outreach to assist elderly citizens and ethnic minority groups in mastering these digital tools.
