Vänsterpartiet gains strength in Stockholm's vulnerable areas
The Left Party (Vänsterpartiet) is seeing significant growth in areas classified by police as particularly vulnerable in Sweden, specifically around the Järvafältet region in northwest Stockholm. In districts such as Rinkebysvängen S, the party has secured over 60 percent of the vote, absorbing many voters who previously supported the Nyans party.
Politician Ilyas Hassan, a member of the party board, attributes this success to effective local presence, door-to-door campaigning, and specific policy proposals outlined in the report ‘Förorten i framtiden’ (The Suburb in the Future). These proposals include smaller class sizes and reduced employer contributions for businesses operating in these areas.
Hassan suggests that the Social Democrats (Socialdemokraterna), who have traditionally held dominance in these regions, are losing influence. He also noted a general sentiment among residents of being ‘tired of the Tidö group’ due to perceived polarization.
