Vânători-Neamț priest assault case moves to trial
Three men are facing trial in Romania after being accused of assaulting a priest, Alexandru Iacoboaiei, in Vânători-Neamț. The prosecutors from the Târgu Neamț Court have finalized the criminal investigation, charging the individuals with assault, threats, and disturbing public order.
The incident occurred on September 6, when the priest was reportedly attacked while attempting to maneuver his vehicle and caravan into a side street. According to the priest's statement, he was grabbed by the neck and struck from behind with a hard object, leading to him falling to the ground. During the altercation, threats were allegedly made against his life.
Two of the suspects remain in custody following a court decision to maintain their preventive detention, while a third man is being judged while at liberty. The case is moving to a preliminary chamber to verify the legality of the evidence before proceeding to a public trial.
