Vodafone and DAMAC Digital open $100M İzmir Data Center

Vodafone Türkiye and DAMAC Digital have inaugurated the İzmir Data Center in Gaziemir, representing a $100 million investment. The facility covers 7,500 square meters of indoor space and is designed to support Turkey’s cloud computing and data processing needs with an architecture compatible with artificial intelligence.

The center is launching with an initial capacity of 4 MW, with plans to scale up to 20 MW. To ensure data security against natural disasters, the facility was constructed using seismic isolator technology. It also features next-generation GPU technology to support both traditional AI applications and generative AI models.

During the opening ceremony, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu emphasized the strategic importance of data sovereignty, noting that a nation's strength in the age of AI and IoT is measured by its ability to produce, process, and protect data within its own borders. Vodafone Türkiye CEO Engin Aksoy highlighted the company's long-term commitment to the country, noting approximately 600 billion TL in investments over the last 20 years.
