Vodafone and Nokia test 50G PON fiber technology in UK

Vodafone and Nokia have successfully completed laboratory trials of 50G Passive Optical Network (50G PON) technology in the United Kingdom. The testing, conducted at Vodafone’s Newbury facility, demonstrated that 50G PON architecture can operate simultaneously with existing GPON and XGS-PON infrastructure. This multi-PON capability allows operators to upgrade network capacity to speeds of up to 50 Gbps by replacing interface cards and ports at access nodes rather than replacing entire physical fiber lines.

In a separate development, MTN Uganda has partnered with Huawei to integrate LinkHome, a smart home management application, into the MyMTN app. This collaboration aims to enhance the fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) experience by providing customers with centralized control over their connected-home environments.
