Vodafone network outage affects thousands in Frankfurt area
A major network outage has disrupted internet, television, and landline telephone services for approximately 28,000 Vodafone customers in the Frankfurt am Main, Bad Vilbel, and Karben regions. The disruption began on the afternoon of Tuesday, October 27.
The cause of the outage was identified as a damaged fiber optic cable resulting from construction work involving a drilling process near Frankfurt-Ginnheim. This damage severed the connection to a Vodafone operating center, creating a connection error for the affected area.
Technicians are working to repair the damage by pulling in a replacement cable and manually splicing the individual fine fibers back into the existing network. Because these connections must be made one by one, service restoration is expected to occur gradually across different households. Vodafone has indicated that services are expected to return to normal by Wednesday afternoon.
