The vodka industry is experiencing a shift in consumer and bartender preferences, moving away from traditional neutrality toward spirits defined by distinct character, flavor, and texture.

At the Melbourne Royal Australian Distilled Spirits Awards, Sunchaser Dirty Vodka received both a Gold Medal and the Trophy for Best Flavoured Vodka. The product utilizes olive distillate and Australian olive brine to cater to the growing popularity of the Dirty Martini. Sunchaser’s production method involves pot distillation with high cut points to retain more texture and character without additives or sugar.

Industry reports indicate that texture—described as creamy, silky, or velvety—is becoming a primary consideration for bartenders. In the UK, brands like Grey Goose, Absolut Elyx, Belvedere, and Ketel One are noted for their specific mouthfeel. Additionally, Ireland’s Boatyard Vodka was identified by bartenders as a favorite due to its combination of banana flavor and creamy texture.
