Voždovac murder: Suspect detained after fatal stabbing in Belgrade

A 42-year-old man, Nenad R., has been detained following a fatal stabbing in the Voždovac municipality of Belgrade. The incident occurred on September 7, 2026, during a physical altercation between the suspect and 29-year-old M. R., who was a tenant in the residence.

According to the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade, the two men were drinking together when a verbal dispute escalated into violence. The suspect allegedly used a kitchen knife to inflict two stab wounds to the victim's chest and elbow, resulting in death at the scene. The suspect claimed during his hearing that the victim had attacked him first with a knife.

Investigations revealed that the suspect initially contacted the police around midnight but reportedly provided an incorrect address, leading to a delay in emergency response. He remained unavailable for several hours before authorities established his true location. The suspect is currently in custody as prosecutors seek to prevent him from influencing witnesses or repeating the offense.
