Voepass executives indicted in Vinhedo plane crash investigation

A Brazilian Federal Court has accepted a complaint from the Federal Public Ministry (MPF), officially naming 12 members of the airline Voepass as defendants in the investigation of the August 9, 2024, plane crash in Vinhedo, São Paulo. The accident resulted in 62 fatalities.

The defendants, who include company president José Luiz Felício Filho, directors, and technical staff, face charges of endangering air transport safety and air transport accidents. The MPF alleges that the company’s organizational culture prioritized profit and cost reduction over essential aircraft maintenance and operational safety.

A Federal Police report previously indicated that the aircraft was not technically fit for flight under the severe icing and precipitation conditions present at the time. Crucial equipment, including the de-icing system and windshield wipers, were reportedly inoperable. Although 16 individuals were initially indicted, four entered non-prosecution agreements and were not included in this specific criminal complaint.
