Vogüé and Bouleternère Showcase France’s Scenic Villages
The Ardèche village of Vogüé sits on a limestone cliff beside the river that gives the department its name. Its tightly packed stone houses, narrow lanes and a medieval castle create a photogenic, compact settlement that has earned it a place among France’s Most Beautiful Villages.
In the Pyrénées‑Orientales, the Catalan village of Bouleternère is bisected by the 14th‑century royal canal of Thuir. The waterway, which still carries water from the Têt to Perpignan, runs past the historic mill sites at Cantonada del Molí, linking the village’s medieval fortifications with its long‑standing hydraulic heritage.
