Vogelsberg physicians criticize telemedicine and healthcare funding policies

Medical representatives from the Vogelsberg General Practitioners' Association met with local officials, including District Administrator Dr. Jens Mischak and CDU Member of Parliament Johannes Wiegelmann, to discuss the sustainability of rural primary care and current legislative initiatives.

A major point of discussion was the planned GKV Contribution Rate Stabilization Act, intended to curb rising statutory health insurance contributions and address multi-billion euro funding gaps.

Local physicians expressed strong criticism regarding several developments, specifically the rise of telemedicine platforms for sick leave. They argued that while teleclinics handle simple cases, patients requiring more complex care must still visit local doctors, leading to redundant billing and financial strain on the system. Additionally, doctors voiced concerns over the potential end of telephone-based sick leave certificates, noting that forcing patients back into waiting rooms increases infection risks and consumes time that could be used for more intensive medical treatments.
