Vogelsbergkreis funds electronic shooting range for Merlau club
Landrat Dr. Jens Mischak announced that the Vogelsbergkreis sport‑funding programme will support the Schützenverein Merlau in the village of Merlau, Mücke. The club applied for a subsidy to replace its ten‑meter manual shooting rigs with a modern electronic shooting system. The total investment exceeds €33,000, of which the district contributes ten percent (€3,325).
The Merlau shooting club counts about 160 members, 50 of whom are active sports shooters across a wide range of disciplines, and has recently bought light rifles for junior members. The new electronic range will deliver instant, millimetre‑precise feedback on each shot, eliminate manual card evaluation, and allow results to be displayed in real time. According to board member Ulrich Fritzges, the system will shorten competition waiting times and enable live streaming of events for spectators.
The funding decision illustrates the district’s commitment to accelerating sport development in the region.
