Voghera OGR asbestos: Son files complaint over father's death

The son of a former railway worker has filed a formal complaint with the Pavia Prosecutor's Office regarding potential asbestos exposure at the Officine Grandi Riparazioni (OGR) in Voghera. Gianluca Oliva is seeking justice for his father, Gianni Oliva, who died on May 9, 2024, from malignant pleural mesothelioma.

Gianni Oliva worked for Ferrovie dello Stato at the Voghera plant from 1974 until 2003, serving first as a painter and later as a senior maintenance technician. During his tenure, asbestos was widely used for insulation in railway carriages and equipment.

Represented by Ezio Bonanni, president of the National Asbestos Observatory, the complaint seeks to identify those responsible for managing worker health and safety at Ferrovie dello Stato and Trenitalia. The legal action aims to investigate potential criminal liability, including involuntary manslaughter aggravated by violations of labor protection regulations.
