Voi electric bike sharing usage rises in the Gooi region

Electric bike sharing services provided by Voi have become widely used in the Gooi region of the Netherlands, with monthly trips exceeding 30,000 in the BEL municipalities. This usage has surpassed initial expectations from local authorities.

However, the rise in popularity has led to concerns regarding public nuisance. Municipalities have received 15 reports concerning improper parking in areas such as Blaricum, Eemnes, and Laren. While users are primarily responsible for following parking rules and may face fines from Voi for violations, the company remains responsible for relocating incorrectly parked bicycles.

To address these issues, local governments are considering the implementation of designated parking hubs. Data collected during the trial period is being used to determine fixed parking locations to balance user convenience with the prevention of public space obstruction.
