Voidtools developer maintains Everything search utility for 22 years

David Carpenter, developing under the voidtools banner, has maintained the free, lightweight search utility Everything for 22 years. Originally inspired by the Winamp music player's ability to quickly locate files, the application provides a fast, non-web-based alternative to the native Windows 11 search experience.

Everything is a Windows-only tool that offers instant results without advertisements or bloatware. Carpenter describes the software as a passion project rather than a commercial business, relying on community feedback and donations to fund ongoing development. New features for the application are expected to be released next year.
