Volča waste center fire destroys 27 tons of tires
A massive fire broke out late Friday night at a waste collection center in Volča, near Tolmin, destroying approximately 27 tons of waste tires. The blaze required a significant response from 67 firefighters representing four volunteer fire departments: PGD Tolmin, PGD Most na Soči, PGD Dolenja Trebuša, and PGD Ponikve – Planota.
Due to the nature of the burning material, firefighters had to use heavy machinery to dig through the debris and apply water and foam to cool hidden hotspots and prevent reignition. The incident caused an estimated 10,000 euros in material damage.
Police are currently investigating the cause of the fire. Authorities suspect the blaze may have been caused by intentional action or negligence, and the incident is being treated as a potential criminal offense involving the damage of property.
