Voladores de Papantla perform ritual in Toluca

The Voladores de Papantla performed their traditional ritual during the San Lorenzo Tepaltitlán patron saint festival in Toluca. The ceremony featured four dancers descending from a high mast attached to ropes, while a leader at the top accompanied the ritual with a flute and drum.

This cultural expression, which symbolizes the relationship between heaven, earth, and natural cycles, is linked to themes of fertility, prosperity, and requests for rain. The ritual ceremony was inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2009.
