Volcan projects Romina mine operations through 2038

Volcan Compañía Minera has projected that its Romina polymetallic project in Huaral will operate until 2038. The company plans to develop Romina as an integrated circuit with its Alpamarca unit in Junín to optimize existing infrastructure.

Miguel Sánchez, deputy general manager of Volcan, announced that the Romina project involves both underground and open-pit operations. The extracted mineral will be transported to the Alpamarca concentrator plant for processing. The project involves an initial capital expenditure (CAPEX) of US$115 million, supplemented by annual sustaining CAPEX of between US$6 million and US$8 million.

To support this integration, the Alpamarca plant is currently being upgraded to handle high-grade ore from Romina. While the plant currently has an installed capacity of 2,500 tons per day, the new capacity is expected to be ready by February 2027.
