Exhumation efforts in the Volhynia region of Ukraine have uncovered the remains of 55 people, including 26 children, in the former Polish villages of Ostrówki and Wola Ostrowiecka. The Polish Institute of National Remembrance (IPN) reported that the remains show evidence of violent deaths, such as mechanical injuries to the skulls. A reburial ceremony for the victims is planned for August 30.

Following decisions by a Ukrainian interdepartmental commission, new exhumations have been approved for Huta Pieniacka and search/exhumation operations in Ugły. Additionally, authorities have granted permission to collect DNA samples from remains buried at the Ostrówki cemetery between 1992 and 2015. These actions are part of a broader effort to identify victims of the Volhynia massacres and are being conducted following the lifting of a moratorium on exhumations in Ukraine.
