Volkan Alçın regains mobility despite brittle bone disease
Volkan Alçın, a 25-year-old resident of the Çarşamba district in Samsun, has successfully regained the ability to walk despite living with osteogenesis imperfecta (brittle bone disease). After suffering a leg fracture in 2012-2013, Alçın spent approximately six years using a wheelchair, with medical professionals suggesting walking might be impossible.
Driven by personal belief and a dream of walking, Alçın underwent a rigorous self-led physical rehabilitation process at home to avoid the risk of falls. He also lost 30 kilograms, dropping from 80 kg to 50 kg, to prepare his body for the struggle. Following two years of formal physical therapy supported by a doctor at Çarşamba State Hospital, he regained mobility.
Currently a university student and content creator, Alçın aims to use social media to promote his hometown of Çarşamba and share diverse life stories with a global audience.
