Volkan Yılmaz condemns Istanbul's demolition of Beykoz taxi stand

The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality’s Boğaziçi Planning Department ordered the demolition of the Ufuk Taxi Stand in Beykoz, a site named after taxi driver Ufuk Akdoğan who was killed in a 1999 terrorist attack. The decision prompted protests from the stand’s workers and local residents. Milliyetçi Hareket Partisi (MHP) Istanbul provincial chairman Volkan Yılmaz visited the location, met with the drivers and criticized the municipality, saying it had “abandoned Istanbul” and was preoccupied with internal party disputes rather than essential services. Yılmaz vowed that the MHP would continue to defend the taxi traders and called for the demolition order to be revoked.

He quoted the mayor’s office as having “given up on Istanbul,” urging the city administration to focus on its core duties such as public transport, waste management and infrastructure.
