Volksbank BRAWO announces restructuring amid interest rate pressure
Volksbank BRAWO is undergoing a strategic realignment following financial pressures reported in its 2025 figures. While the bank reported solid results in core banking—with business volume rising 4.5% to 12.7 billion euros—the interest surplus fell by 21.5%, dropping from 120.7 million euros to 94.7 million euros due to rising costs and valuation effects.
In response to these economic shifts and increased risks in the regional economy, the bank is implementing a sustainable reduction of its cost base and a fundamental revision of its business model. Despite the need for restructuring, the bank emphasized that deposits and business assets remain ‘absolutely secure’.
Regarding social responsibility, the bank intends to maintain its regional engagement in areas such as Braunschweig, Wolfsburg, Peine, Salzgitter, and Gifhorn. To manage costs, the board plans to reduce supra-regional and national marketing and sponsoring activities that do not directly benefit the local brand. Long-term commitments, including the United Kids Foundations, are expected to continue.
