Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge conducts fundraising and remembrance activities

The Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge is conducting its annual house-to-house and street collection in Rhineland-Palatinate from October 11 to November 25. Volunteers in the Südliche Weinstraße district are collecting donations to support the maintenance of war graves and international youth and educational work. The organization currently manages approximately 840 war graves in 45 countries, representing around 2.8 million war dead.

In Viersen, the Kreisarchiv is hosting a traveling exhibition from the Riga Committee of the Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge until December 11. The exhibition focuses on the fate of over 25,000 Jewish people deported to Riga in 1941 and 1942. Local records from the Viersen district archive complement the exhibition, highlighting the 132 identified victims from the region, of whom only six survived. The display covers the stages of persecution, including the Riga ghetto and various camps, while also examining the administrative roles of perpetrators.
