Brazil electric vehicle market sees rapid growth and infrastructure expansion

Brazil is experiencing a significant surge in electric vehicle (EV) adoption. According to an Ember report, the country has surpassed the United States in the percentage growth of battery electric vehicle (BEV) sales, which rose 8% between March and September. In 2026, electrified models accounted for 20.1% of new vehicle registrations in Brazil, totaling 434,000 units—a 126.2% increase from the previous year.

To support this growth, charging infrastructure is expanding. Brazil currently has approximately 30,000 public and semi-public charging points, a 76.9% annual increase. In São José dos Campos, EV sales rose 164% between January and September, supported by six municipal charging stations.

Major manufacturers are also adjusting their strategies. Volkswagen has launched the ID. 4 in Brazil, priced at R$ 299,990, marking its first direct-to-consumer electric offering in the country. Meanwhile, BYD Carmais is running promotional campaigns in the Northeast to increase accessibility, and Caoa Chery has introduced the Tiggo 9, a sophisticated SUV featuring a plug-in hybrid version with a total range of 1,200 km.
