Volkswagen Golf named top used car of the decade

The Volkswagen Golf has been named the best used car of the last decade by British drivers in a survey conducted by CarGurus. The study, which polled 1,000 drivers, highlighted the Golf as a top choice due to its combination of reliability, practicality, design, and affordability.

While hatchbacks remain popular, with 28 percent of respondents preferring them, the survey noted a rise in the popularity of SUVs. Small and medium-sized family SUVs accounted for 36 percent of preferred used cars, with the BMW X3 ranking second in the survey.

In technical assessments, the Golf's various generations show differing results. While the Golf 6 and Golf 7 models generally perform well during TÜV inspections even with high mileage, the newer Golf 8 has shown some weaknesses, particularly regarding its braking systems. The Golf 8 has also faced criticism for its highly digitized interface, though recent facelifts have aimed to address some of these usability issues.
