Volkswagen evaluates Ducati sale amid group restructuring
Volkswagen Group is conducting a comprehensive review of its portfolio as part of a major restructuring effort aimed at reducing costs and simplifying its corporate structure. Audi CEO Gernot Döllner confirmed that Ducati, the Italian motorcycle manufacturer owned by Audi, is among approximately 600 subsidiaries being evaluated.
While the potential sale of Ducati is being discussed, Döllner emphasized that “nothing has been decided” and that the company is committed to disciplined portfolio management. Some reports suggest a decision may not be reached for two to three years. Analysts estimate Ducati’s market value could be between €1.25 billion and $1.5 billion, representing a significant increase from its acquisition price in 2012.
The broader Volkswagen restructuring plan aims to reduce the number of its holdings by approximately one-third. This initiative follows strategic pressures, including competition in China and trade tariffs in the United States. The group is also looking to streamline its operations, which includes potential workforce reductions and a reduction in the number of vehicle models offered.
