Volkswagen Hannover plant remains competitive, says Olaf Lies
Lower Saxony Minister President Olaf Lies expressed optimism regarding the competitiveness of Volkswagen’s Hannover plant following a recent site visit. Lies highlighted that the facility is central to the Volkswagen Group and noted that production for autonomous ID buses and the 'California' model is being integrated into existing assembly lines.
Lies emphasized that the workforce has contributed cost-reduction efforts through optimization proposals. While acknowledging that negotiations to maintain production in Lower Saxony and Germany are complex, he remains hopeful for sustainable agreements. He also announced upcoming visits to Volkswagen sites in Osnabrück and Emden to evaluate their future roles in the company’s structure.
In response to the visit, Works Council Chair Daniela Cavallo called on Volkswagen leadership to disclose its corporate strategy to employees. The state of Lower Saxony remains a major stakeholder in the company, holding a 20 percent voting interest.
