Volkswagen launches Jetta M6 electric sedan for Chinese market
Volkswagen's China joint venture FAW‑Volkswagen introduced the Jetta M6, the first fully electric model from the Jetta brand created for the Chinese market. The fastback‑styled sedan measures 4.81 m long, 1.87 m wide and 1.50 m high with a 2.82 m wheelbase, and offers a large central touchscreen, wireless phone charger and seats that can fold flat to form a bed.
Two powertrains are available: an entry version with a 113 kW (154 hp) motor and a higher‑output version with 145 kW (197 hp), delivering top speeds of 166–172 km/h. Battery packs are supplied by CALB, though capacity and range have not yet been disclosed. The model will be presented at a brand event in Chengdu in early August, with commercial sales slated for the second half of 2026.
The launch follows a 13.1 % drop in Jetta’s first‑half‑2026 sales of internal‑combustion vehicles in China, prompting the brand to accelerate its electric‑vehicle strategy and compete with domestic rivals such as BYD, Xpeng and MG.
