Volkswagen Taos hybrid SUV to be based on Chinese Jetta VS8

The next generation of the Volkswagen Taos, a mid-size hybrid SUV, will be based on the Chinese Jetta VS8 model. Scheduled for domestic production in São Bernardo do Campo, Brazil, starting in 2028, the project follows a strategy where Volkswagen utilizes models from its Chinese joint venture, FAW-Volkswagen, to develop vehicles for other markets.

The Jetta brand, which operates under the FAW-Volkswagen joint venture, focuses on accessible vehicles using established group platforms. The VS8, a recent 2025 release from the Jetta brand, serves as the direct foundation for the upcoming Brazilian Taos, a move similar to how the second-generation Amarok is derived from the Chinese Maxus Terron 9.
